Ubiquiti UniFi Login and Network Controller Setup
Ubiquiti makes two product lines with different login methods: UniFi (controller-managed) and EdgeMax (web GUI at 192.168.1.1). Identify your device first - the login process is completely different between the two.
Ubiquiti Product Lines and Their Login Methods
Ubiquiti Networks (now UI) produces networking equipment for small business and technically advanced home networks. Their product portfolio divides into two distinct families, each with a different management approach:
Official Ubiquiti documentation: UI Help Center
UniFi APs, switches, and gateways require the UniFi Network Controller - either self-hosted, on a cloud key (UCK-G2), or via ui.com cloud. No direct web GUI login on individual devices.
EdgeRouter Lite, EdgeRouter X, EdgeRouter 4 - these have a traditional web GUI at 192.168.1.1 and full CLI access via SSH. Default login: ubnt / ubnt.
Point-to-point CPE devices like the NanoStation and LiteBeam. Access via 192.168.1.20 by default after first connecting directly. Login: ubnt / ubnt.
UDM, UDM-Pro, and UDR combine UniFi OS with an integrated controller. Access at 192.168.1.1 after initial setup. Login with your ui.com account or local admin.
How to Log In
EdgeRouter (EdgeMax)
Connect your computer directly to the EdgeRouter's eth0 (port 1) with an Ethernet cable. Set your computer's IP manually to 192.168.1.2 if DHCP does not assign one.
Go to https://192.168.1.1 - EdgeOS uses HTTPS. Accept the self-signed certificate warning.
Default username and password are both ubnt. Change them immediately on first login - leaving ubnt/ubnt active is a significant security risk.
UniFi Dream Machine / UDM Pro
Download the UniFi Network app on iOS or Android. It guides you through adopting the UDM to either a ui.com cloud account or a local-only account.
After initial setup, open https://192.168.1.1 to access the UniFi Network Controller interface. Log in with your ui.com credentials or the local admin account you created.

Troubleshooting
Default for all EdgeOS devices. If rejected, factory reset: hold Reset 10 seconds on EdgeRouter Lite.
Force provision in UniFi Network. For previously adopted devices, factory reset via SSH: syswrapper.sh restore-default, then re-adopt.

Official documentation answers most setup questions, but these communities have thousands of solved threads covering every edge case.
FAQ
Is Ubiquiti suitable for home use?
Yes, with caveats. UniFi hardware delivers enterprise-grade performance and feature depth at reasonable prices. The trade-off is complexity - UniFi requires a controller (hardware or software), VLAN and firewall concepts are expected knowledge, and there is no simplified setup wizard. For users willing to invest the learning time, a UDM Pro with a few UniFi APs produces a genuinely superior home network. For users who want simplicity, TP-Link Deco or Google Nest are better choices.
Can I manage UniFi without a cloud account?
Yes. UniFi Network Controller can run as a self-hosted application on a Raspberry Pi, NAS, or any always-on computer on your network. A Cloud Key (UCK-G2 or UCK-G2-Plus) is dedicated hardware that runs the controller locally. Neither requires a ui.com cloud account - cloud connectivity is optional and used mainly for remote access.
