Linksys Router Login and Setup
Access your Linksys admin panel at myrouter.local or 192.168.1.1. Default login is admin / admin. Covers EA series, Velop mesh, and Linksys Smart WiFi cloud management.
Linksys Admin Panel Overview
Linksys routers are managed through a browser-based admin panel at myrouter.local or 192.168.1.1. The myrouter.local hostname uses mDNS (Multicast DNS), which works well on most networks but can fail if your device has custom DNS settings. When the hostname does not resolve, the IP address always works as a fallback. Linksys also offers a cloud management platform called Smart WiFi at linksyssmartwifi.com that lets you manage the router remotely after account registration.
Velop mesh systems (WHW series) are managed primarily through the Linksys app on iOS or Android. Velop MX systems add a browser panel at myrouter.local on top of app management. Classic WRT routers like the WRT3200ACM officially support third-party firmware including OpenWRT.
myrouter.local or 192.168.1.1. Some models also respond at linksyssmartwifi.com when linked to an account.
Username: admin. Password: admin. Classic WRT series: blank username, password admin.
Optional cloud account at linksyssmartwifi.com for remote management from any browser or the Linksys app.
WHW series is app-only. MX series adds a browser panel. Place nodes halfway between existing coverage and dead zones.
How to Log In
Connect via Wi-Fi (default SSID: Linksys, with optional number suffix) or Ethernet into a LAN port.
Type http://myrouter.local in a browser. If it opens a search page, use http://192.168.1.1 directly.
Username: admin. Password: admin (factory default for EA series). Velop mesh systems may require the Linksys app instead - check whether your model has a web interface at 192.168.1.1.
Go to Connectivity → Administration → Router Password. The default admin/admin is widely known - change it before anyone else on your network does.
Linksys Smart WiFi (smartwifi.linksys.com) provides remote access to your router settings from any browser. Creating a Linksys account also lets you manage guest access, parental controls, and bandwidth allocation from a phone.

Troubleshooting
mDNS resolution fails when custom DNS is set on your device, or on some Windows machines without Bonjour. Use http://192.168.1.1 directly - it always works.
The Smart WiFi setup wizard prompts you to change the password during initial setup. Check any notes from setup, or factory reset by holding the reset button 10 seconds to restore admin/admin defaults.
Connect your computer to the router by Ethernet, do a factory reset, and run through the wizard again. If the wizard keeps failing at internet detection, verify the modem cable is plugged into the WAN port (usually blue), not a LAN port.
Purple means the node is not paired to the main unit. Move the node closer, wait for solid blue, then reposition. Large concrete walls and metal appliances significantly reduce mesh signal between nodes.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does Linksys require a cloud account to use the router?
No. The full local admin panel at myrouter.local or 192.168.1.1 is available without any account. A Smart WiFi account is only needed for remote management from outside your home network. Creating one is entirely optional.
Can I install OpenWRT on a Linksys router?
Several WRT series routers (WRT1900ACS, WRT3200ACM, WRT32X) officially support OpenWRT. Linksys designed these models with community firmware in mind and released the source code. Check openwrt.org for your model's compatibility and installation guide before proceeding.
Velop says it cannot find my internet connection during setup
Power cycle your modem first. Unplug it for 60 seconds, then plug it back in. Wait for the modem to fully connect before powering on the Velop. The modem must be online before Velop can detect the internet. If you have a gateway that combines modem and router, check whether you need to enable bridge mode.
