Cisco Home Router Login and Setup Guide

Cisco sold its home router brand (Linksys) to Belkin in 2013. If you have a router labelled Cisco-Linksys or Cisco EA/E series, the login process is identical to Linksys today - same firmware, same admin panel.

Cisco Home Routers - What You Likely Have

Cisco Systems acquired Linksys in 2003 and sold it to Belkin in 2013. During that decade, routers were sold under both "Cisco" and "Cisco-Linksys" branding. If your router is labelled with the Cisco logo alongside a model number starting with E or EA (E900, E1200, EA4500, EA6300, etc.), it is a Linksys product running Linksys firmware. The admin panel login is the same as any current Linksys router.

Cisco's enterprise routers (ISR, ASR, Catalyst) are a completely different product category not covered here. If you have a Cisco device without a Linksys model number, it is likely a managed business device - see Cisco's enterprise documentation at Cisco Support.

Cisco-Linksys E Series

E900, E1200, E2000, E3000, E4200 - dual-band home routers. Admin at 192.168.1.1, login admin/admin.

Cisco-Linksys EA Series

EA3500, EA4500, EA6300, EA6500, EA6900 - 802.11ac routers. Admin at 192.168.1.1 or myrouter.local.

Cisco DPC3941T (cable)

Comcast-deployed Cisco cable gateway. Admin at 10.0.0.1 - same as Arris gateways.

How to Log In

1
Connect to the Cisco-Linksys network

Connect via Wi-Fi or Ethernet. The SSID is on the label on the bottom of the router.

2
Open 192.168.1.1 or myrouter.local

Type http://192.168.1.1 in a browser. EA series routers also respond at http://myrouter.local.

3
Log in with admin / admin

Default username: admin. Default password: admin. If that fails, try admin with a blank password - some E series models ship with no password. Check the label on the device.

For complete coverage of the current Linksys product line (Smart WiFi, Velop mesh), see the full Linksys setup guide.

Troubleshooting

1
Which Cisco model do I have?

Check the label. Cisco-Linksys home routers start with E or EA. Enterprise Cisco (ISR, ASR, Catalyst) is a different product - see enterprise docs.

2
admin/admin not working

Press Reset for 10 seconds to restore factory defaults if the password was changed.

FAQ

Is firmware still available for old Cisco-Linksys routers?

Linksys (now owned by Belkin) continues to host legacy firmware for some older models on linksys.com. Support varies by model - EA series generally has better post-sale firmware support than the older E series. Community firmware like DD-WRT and OpenWrt support many Cisco-Linksys models and provide ongoing updates even for discontinued hardware.
