ZyXEL Router Login and Setup Guide
ZyXEL routers use 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.1.254 depending on model. Default credentials vary - check the label on your device. ZyXEL is a major OEM supplier to European ISPs including Swisscom, BT, and Deutsche Telekom.
About ZyXEL
ZyXEL Communications, founded in 1989 in Taiwan, is one of the largest networking equipment manufacturers you may never have heard of by name - because much of their hardware ships under ISP white labels. Your "Swisscom Centro Business", "BT Home Hub 3", or "Deutsche Telekom Speedport" might actually be a ZyXEL device underneath. They also sell retail routers under their own brand, primarily the NBG home router series, VMG DSL/VDSL gateways, and the Armor gaming router lineup.
Official ZyXEL support: ZyXEL Support
Retail home routers. NBG6815, NBG6617, NBG7815 (Armor Z2). Access via 192.168.1.1. Password on device label.
ISP-deployed VDSL2 gateways. VMG1312, VMG3312, VMG8823. Often use 192.168.1.1. ISP may have changed admin credentials.
Gaming routers with Trend Micro security. Armor Z2 (NBG6815), Armor G5 (NBG7815). Web GUI + ZyXEL app management.
ZyXEL manufactures gateways for many European ISPs. These often have ISP-customized firmware with locked-down admin access.
How to Log In
Connect via Wi-Fi (SSID on the label) or Ethernet to any LAN port.
Try http://192.168.1.1 first. If the page does not load, try http://192.168.1.254. For ISP-supplied ZyXEL devices, check the label for a management URL - some use http://setup.zyxel or http://zyxel.box.
ZyXEL defaults vary significantly by model. Check the table below or the sticker on the device - newer models print a unique password per unit.
Default Credentials by Model
| Model / Series | Default IP | Username | Password |
|---|---|---|---|
| NBG6515, NBG6615 | 192.168.1.1 | admin | 1234 |
| NBG6615, NBG6617 | 192.168.1.1 | admin | Printed on label |
| NBG7815 (Armor G5) | 192.168.1.1 | admin | Printed on label |
| VMG1312, VMG3312 | 192.168.1.1 | admin | 1234 |
| VMG8823, VMG8825 | 192.168.1.1 | admin | Printed on label |
| EMG3415 (LTE) | 192.168.1.1 | admin | 1234 |
| P-660HN (ADSL) | 192.168.1.1 | admin | 1234 |
| SBG3300 (Fiber) | 192.168.1.254 | admin | admin or label |
| ISP OEM (locked) | varies | ISP-set | Contact ISP |
ISP-supplied ZyXEL gateways (Deutsche Telekom, Swisscom, Orange) typically have admin access locked or credentials controlled by the ISP. Standard admin/1234 combinations will not work on these units.
Troubleshooting
Run ipconfig (Windows) or ip route show default (Linux/Mac) to find the actual gateway IP. ZyXEL VMG series sometimes uses 192.168.100.1 in bridge-mode deployments.
Check the label on the bottom of the device. Post-2019 ZyXEL models print a unique password on the label rather than using 1234. If no label password and 1234 fails, factory reset by holding the Reset button for 10 seconds.
ISPs that deploy ZyXEL hardware often disable or restrict the admin panel. Your ISP provides a customer portal instead. Contact your ISP directly to request admin access or to make configuration changes to the gateway.

FAQ
Is my ISP router actually a ZyXEL device?
Check the bottom label for a model number. If it starts with "VMG", "NBG", "EMG", "SBG", or "P-" - it is a ZyXEL device. Alternatively, run arp -a on your computer and look up the router's MAC address prefix at a MAC lookup tool - ZyXEL OUI prefixes include 00:13:49, 00:A0:C5, and B4:B0:24.
Can I install third-party firmware on a ZyXEL router?
DD-WRT and OpenWrt support a limited number of ZyXEL models. The NBG6617 and some older VMG series have community-maintained OpenWrt builds. Check the OpenWrt device table at openwrt.org before purchasing if firmware flexibility matters to you - ZyXEL's own firmware support window is typically 3-5 years.
