About Netgear Orbi
Orbi is Netgear's mesh line: a main router (model numbers starting with RBR) plus one or more satellites (RBS) that share a single network across the house. The thing that made Orbi's reputation is the dedicated backhaul, a separate 5 GHz radio that tri-band models reserve just for router-to-satellite traffic. Your devices never compete with the mesh's own plumbing, which is why a proper tri-band Orbi holds speed at the far satellite better than most rivals. Note that the cheaper dual-band kits (RBK352 and similar) don't have that dedicated radio and behave more like ordinary extenders.
Unlike app-only systems such as Eero or Nest WiFi, Orbi kept the full web admin panel. You can run the initial setup in the Orbi app and then never touch it again, everything from port forwarding to VLAN-ish guest isolation lives at orbilogin.com. For anyone coming from a normal Netgear router the layout will feel instantly familiar.

How to Log In
Connect your device via Wi-Fi or Ethernet cable to the Netgear Orbi router.
Navigate to http://192.168.1.1 / orbilogin.com in a browser.
Username: admin. Password: password. Check the device label for any customized credentials.
First time in, the panel will push you to change the password and set security questions. Do it, but write the new password somewhere real, password recovery on Orbi only works if those security questions were actually set.

Satellite Sync and the Ring Light
Each satellite has a ring LED that tells you exactly how the pairing went, and learning its three colors saves a lot of guessing:
Blue means a good backhaul connection, leave it where it is. Amber means the link works but is marginal, move the satellite a room closer to the router. Magenta means it failed to sync at all. The ring only glows for a couple of minutes after boot or sync, then goes dark, that's normal and not a fault.
To pair a satellite that lost its connection: press the Sync button on the router, then within two minutes press Sync on the satellite. If magenta persists after a couple of attempts, do the pairing in the same room and only then move the satellite to its final position.
If your house simply refuses to carry a wireless backhaul (concrete floors, long distances), most Orbi models accept a wired backhaul: run Ethernet from a router LAN port to the satellite and it switches to the cable automatically. Speed over a wired backhaul is basically indistinguishable from sitting next to the main router.
Troubleshooting
The hostname only resolves through the Orbi's own DNS. If your device uses custom DNS (or a VPN, or Private Relay on iPhones), it never asks the Orbi. Go to http://192.168.1.1 directly, that always works from inside the network.
Check the actual numbers under Advanced → Orbi → Orbi Devices (backhaul status per satellite). "Good" is what you want; anything less, move the satellite. Remember it needs to talk to the router, not to the dead zone.
Check the WAN IP under Advanced → Setup → Internet Setup. If it starts with 192.168, 10., or 100.64-127, your ISP box in front of the Orbi is doing its own NAT and your forwards die there. Either forward the same ports on the ISP gateway too, or put it in bridge mode and let the Orbi handle everything.
The web panel wants the router admin password, not your Wi-Fi password and not your Netgear account login. Three different credentials, endless confusion. After five failed attempts Orbi temporarily locks the panel, wait a few minutes before retrying. Lost the admin password for good? Hold Reset for about 10 seconds and set the unit up fresh.

FAQ
What if the default credentials do not work?
Check the physical label on the device for custom credentials. If the password was changed and is unknown, press and hold the Reset button for 10 seconds to restore factory defaults. After a factory reset, the default credentials listed above will work again.
Do I log in on the satellite or the router?
Always the router. Satellites have no admin panel of their own; everything, including per-satellite status, is managed from the main unit at orbilogin.com. If you type a satellite's IP you'll just get redirected or a bare status page depending on firmware.
Is Orbi Armor worth paying for?
Armor is Bitdefender-based network security, free for a trial period and then a yearly subscription. It does catch known-malicious sites at the network level. Whether that's worth it depends on your household; devices with their own protection get less benefit, smart home gadgets with no protection get the most. It's genuinely optional, the router works fully without it.
Can I mix different Orbi models?
Within the same series, usually yes (an RBS750 satellite pairs with an RBR750 or RBR850 router). Across Wi-Fi generations it gets messy and Netgear maintains a compatibility list, check it before buying a used satellite. Orbi Pro (SXK) and home Orbi lines do not mix at all.
